The Ensemble Theatre
production, directed by
Sandra Bates, remains to
this day the top-selling play
in the Sydney company's 48
year history. Warren
Mitchell, the Olivier Award-
winning English actor who
played Mr. Green, is known
throughout England and
Australia as Alf Garnett, the
star of Till Death Do Us
Part, the English tv series
that inspired All in the
Family. His co-star in the
Sydney production of
Visiting Mr. Green was his
son Daniel Mitchell.
“Apart from its considerable
wit and understanding, the
strength of Visiting Mr.
Green is the rich tapestry it
weaves from the
characters’ lives. The
tormented histories, the
persecution, the solitary
isolation and the romance,
faith and happiness that
burden and uplift them.
Visiting Mr. Green is
thoughtful and absorbing.”
- Sydney Morning Herald
“The play is not merely about opposites finding a
mutual point of agreement. It's about honest,
inner fears and prejudices, hurts, imagined and
real, and most of all, tolerance and acceptance -
an excellent play.” - The Catholic Weekly
